Why I made it
As a designer working on branding, editorial, and digital projects, I often ran into the same issue: constantly having to figure out how big the margin should be for a new layout. I wanted a system for layouts that would give me relatively the same margin size in proportion to the layout size, something consistent but still flexible. So I made GRID'R, a layout method based on diagonal proportions instead of fixed units.
What it’s for
GRID'R is a margin and spacing system that uses the diagonal of any canvas (based on the Pythagorean formula) as its base. Divide the diagonal by a fixed number to get a scalable unit. This keeps spacing consistent, proportional, and adaptable. So whether you’re designing a poster, website, presentation, or social post, the layout always looks consistent.
How to use it
Use a preset or enter a custom size, choose how many rows or columns you want, and set the divider to get a margin size that works for you. You can also adjust the gutter as a percentage of the margin.
